My view:
Cyber security is on the radar as a major area of vulnerability over the next couple of years.
As work continues on the elusive quantum computer, we may see the first prototypes develop shortly.
The threat from such powerful machines, that allow calculations many multiple times faster than the fastest machines today, are their potential applications.
Imagine a white collar criminal who wishes to hack bank accounts or steal data and beat encryption codes with a machine that is an order of magnitude faster than anything available today.
Such a threat would render the most secure encryption vulnerable.
