US State Department Orders 3D Printer Gun Blueprints Removal From Web
Defense Distributed, a non-profit organization that aims to defend the rights of citizens across the world to have access to arms, posted a note on Twitter confirming their project had “gone dark.”#DEFCAD has gone dark at the request of the Department of Defense Trade Controls. Take it up with the Secretary of State.—
Defense Distributed (@DefDist) May 09, 2013On its website, the organization wrote: “Until further notice, the United States government claims control of the information.”Two days after the blueprints were posted, they had been downloaded 100,000 times from users around the world, an organization spokesperson told Forbes.
