Wikileaks Founder Arrested
The arrest of prominent Wikileaks founder Mr. Julian Assange is a cause of great concern.
The timing of the warrant seems quite suspect given the nature of Mr. Assange's new enemy, the US government.
What is particularly disconcerting is the denial of bail for a charge that is not of the most serious nature.
This action, combined with cyber attacks on his site, and the coercion involved with Amazon and PayPal refusing to process financial transactions, is reminiscent of another high profile whistle-blower that was brought to his knees when he was Governor of New York once he went after Goldman Sachs, Mr. Eliot Spitzer. There is much more here than meets the eye. As we discussed in a recent article, the cooperation of government power and corporate power (banking in particular) lead to terrible abuses of the justice system. While we have no sympathy for Mr. Assange's extracurricular activities, we certainly see the rapid deterioration of civil liberties that the case highlights.
